Francisco Javier VARGAS LUNA

I was born in a small town in southern Mexico called Oaxaca in 1992. After studying and practicing clarinet profesionnaly for many years I started developing a passion for orchestra conduction. It is at that point that I redirected my studies towards conducting in Europe specifically in Monaco and France, where I have been living since 2017. 

I have a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Music UNAM , a bachelor degree  in clarinet from the Rainer III Academy of Music in Monte-Carlo and two specialisation’s degrees in orchestra conducting from the Strasbourg Conservatory. 

My main teachers in orchestral conducting are Miguel ETCHEGONCELAY and Theodor GUSCHLBAUER. Other studies have led me to take classes with artists such as Franco CESARINI, Andrea LOSS, David REYNALD and José Rafael PASCUAL VILAPLANA.

Some of the groups with whom I have collaborated as a guest director are: Banda de Música del Estado de Oaxaca, Sinfónica de Alientos de la Guardia Nacional, (Mexico), Orchestre d’harmonie de Nice, Orchestre chambre du Menton, Orchestre d’harmonie de Mertzwiller, Ensemble à vents de Hersingue, Orchestre à Vents du Conservatoire de Strasbourg  (France), Banda de Música de Alzira, Banda Sinfónica de Asís Alicante, Madrid Symphonic Artist (Spain), Orchestre a vents de l’Académie Rainer III et Orchestre de Chambre du Principauté de Monaco.

I have won several awards and scholarships such as the «National Clarinet Contest» at the UNAM Music Faculty in 2013, the «Young Artist Clariperú and Vandoren Paris» International Award in 2014 and the «Oaxaca Youth State Award». 2016″ in the category «Artistic Activities». I obtained the scholarship from the Turquois Foundation in the Principality of Monaco of Monte-Carlo in 2017 where I won the medal Princess Grace Foundation in 2018 and the Prix de l’Artiste SOGEDA of Monte-Carlo in 2019. In 2024 I finisched first at the First International  Competition of Conductor «la Guardia» Toledo, España.

I currently live in Strasbourg, France where I work as a clarinet and conduct teacher at the municipal schools in the department of Haut Rhin in Alsace, as well as other projects with various partners such as the Symphony Orchestra, the Contemporary Ensemble, Stage Productions, the Brass Band and Percussion Ensembles.
